New business idea for women: tailoring luminous backpacks
I’ll tell you my story of starting a family business. At the age of 30, on maternity leave with my second child, I was looking for a job for my soul and earning at the same time. In the 2014 Chanel spring collection, I saw such a trendy backpack worth 3 thousand dollars.
The simplicity of the style, and most importantly its price, prompted me to try to do the same. And I did it. But the highlight of my backpack was the use of luminous elements. I bought my first luminous backpack, decorated it with colored luminous jewelry and applied the logo with luminous paint. To make a bright copy of the brand thing, I needed:
Buy a backpack – $ 10
Buy luminous AcmeLightTextile paint for silk-screen printing on textiles of 0.5 l (there is no less packaging) – $ 50 and AcmeLightPlastic for plastic surfaces (0.75 l) -55 $. Plus shipping fee – $ 20.
Decorative elements in the form of plastic large beads, etc. I have in stock.
Total Cost: $ 135
Why am I writing about costs in such detail? Yes, because I sold my homemade backpack after the first trip to a night party. Guess how much! Well, of course, not for 3 thousand dollars. I sold it for $ 300! And the buyer offered me a price for it, but I agreed. And she liked not only the resemblance to the famous branded backpack, but the fact that it glows in the dark. And it impressed everyone who saw him.
How I started my first business
You know, after I received $ 300 and realized that for 2 weeks (delivery time of luminous paint and production time) I earned $ 165 on one backpack – I decided to try the experiment again. Moreover, according to the consumption claimed by the manufacturer: for textiles – 1 liter per 5 square meters. m, plastic – 1 liter per 8 square meters. m, the resulting luminous paint should be enough for me a few hundred backpacks. Calculation: if you make a luminous application of 10×10 cm in size, then from 0.5 l it turns out 2.5 square meters. m / (0.1 * 0.1) = 250 pcs., approximately the same yield on plastic.
It turns out the cost of luminous elements of one bag: $ 125/250 pcs. = $ 0.5
In fact, my earnings can be $ 300 – $ 10 – $ 0.5 = $ 289.5 !!!!! A very good incentive, I will tell you! Moreover, I graduated from cutting and sewing courses and can sew professionally. New business ideas are now very rare, and for me it was just the same find.
My next masterpiece was a backpack for my daughter.
I sewed it myself. After the publication of my child, I received an order for 8 backpacks for classmates, 3 of them for sewing and 5 for applying luminous elements. I estimated the cost of applying luminous elements at $ 5. This amount did not frighten any of the parents. Not only that, they gave my phone number to friends and orders just fell in.
Having made these applications, I refused to make them on the customer’s products, because I could sell my backpacks with a higher income.
I’ll tell you about the most interesting options. In essence, on their basis, an assortment of products and services has been formed. Glowing paint made my products not only unique, but also practical in operation.
Cyclist’s Backpack: Riding along night trails can be dangerous, and luminous stripes will locate the cyclist and will serve as an additional safety measure on the roads.
Beach bag. Nobody canceled night bathing, and stylish luminous stripes will allow you to find your backpack quickly on a night beach.
4 Backpack for kindergarten or classes in circles. Returning home on a winter dark evening will be much more interesting for the child.
By the way, when working specifically with these backpacks, I used a luminous and reflective tape of the same manufacturer Acmelight 2.5 cm wide and cost $ 6 per square meter. It took 25 cm per 1 bag.
Having worked out several models of backpacks, I realized that the luminous elements help to make my product popular, and making money more interesting.
How much I earned in 3 months
Without going into details of calculations and the number of manufactured products, I’ll say that without much stress, caring for a one-year-old child, schoolgirl and husband, i.e. completely in housekeeping, I earned almost $ 700. This is minus all material costs.
Now I have decided to become an Acmelight dealer, firstly, to learn about other luminous products and the possibilities of their application, and secondly, to buy products at special prices. My husband supports me and I will succeed. After the end of maternity leave I plan to formalize entrepreneurship.
I do not boast. I just want to inspire with my example those women who are afraid to believe in themselves. Try it, reveal your talents and earn!
